In 2019, Panjshir province education support team declared it as the (year of the book) and took a significant step towards promoting education and literacy. A group of friends in cooperation with the Afghanistan Information Center based in Kabul university , established the first library in Karpitab High School of Paryan district, Panjshir province providing students with access to over 500 volumes of books. This initiative is a clear demonstration of the province’s commitment to improve access to education and encouraging youths to read books.
The library was received with great interest and enthusiasm by the students, who saw it as an opportunity to expand their knowledge and improve their chances for a better future. However, it’s worth noting that despite the government’s promise to provide books for the students, it failed to deliver on its promise and the library was established by the community effort. This highlights the need for more community-led initiatives to support education in the province, as well as the importance of holding the government accountable for its promises to the people.
This library is expected to have a positive impact on the community by promoting a culture of reading and learning, and providing students with the resources they need to excel in their studies. It is a step in the right direction towards creating a sustainable future for the province, where education is accessible and valued by all. This move is expected to be a model for other schools in the province to follow and create more libraries for the students. It is important that the government should fulfill its responsibilities and provide the students with the necessary resources for their education.
