National Resistance Front, Kabul: Taliban have put the officials of the independent media in Afghanistan on trial and the ruling will be announced soon.
The Taliban is looking for more impediments to eradicate the freedom of expression, and not to allow echoing of the ground reality; is going to put on trial the officials of at least 10 media outlets in Afghanistan who are reflecting the current events in the country.
Since the Taliban invaded Afghanistan hundreds of media outlets have been shut off. Several media outlets broadcast at the request of the Taliban, and some others, which reporting the situation independently and impartially but secretly, have been threatened by this group.
The space for the freedom of expression has been suffocated by the Taliban to such an extent that even the users of social media networks are monitored by the Taliban.
Yesterday, a journalist critiquing the Taliban was released from the prison in Herat. Khalid Qadri, the former presenter of Nowrooz Radio in Herat, was sentenced to one year in prison by the group’s court “for publishing against the view of the Taliban on social media” and was released after about ten months of imprisonment.
In the past months, the Taliban attacked the offices of several television stations in Kabul, Balkh and Herat; detained and interrogated several journalists and presenters.
