Dr. Nasir A. Andisha is a highly accomplished diplomat and academic from Afghanistan. He
has served in a number of high-level positions within the Afghan government, including as
Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Afghanistan to the UN in Geneva, Deputy
Foreign Minister for Management and Resources, and Ambassador of the Islamic Republic
of Afghanistan to the Commonwealth of Australia, New Zealand and the Republic of Fiji. He
was appointed as Ambassador at the age of 32, making him the youngest Ambassador in
Afghanistan’ Foreign Service at the time.
Prior to his appointment as Ambassador, Dr. Andisha served as the Director General of the
Fifth Political Division (US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand) and the Director of
Multilateral Economic Relations and International Financial Institutions. He also worked as a
consultant at the Energy Charter Secretariat in Brussels and briefly served at the Permanent
Mission of Afghanistan at the U.N. Headquarters in New York City.
Dr. Andisha began his career as a field officer with the International Committee of Red Cross
and also taught International Relations and Principles of Economics at the Institute of
Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan and Al Beroni University in
Afghanistan. He received his Master’s degree in International Affairs (International
Economics and Development) from The George H. Bush School of Government and Public
Services at Texas A&M University as a Fulbright Scholar. He also completed an Advanced
Security Studies Diploma from the Marshall Centre for European Studies in Garmisch-
Germany and the Asia Pacific Centre for Security Studies in Hawaii, USA. He also attended
the Executive Education Program for Leaders from South Asia at the Kennedy School of
Government in Harvard University. He holds a Ph.D. in International Relations from the Asia
Pacific College of Diplomacy at the Australian National University. He is fluent in Farsi/Dari, Pashto, and English, and has basic fluency in
Arabic and French. He is married with three children.
